One-Ounce 2012 Proof American Eagle Gold Coin

Available now are proof versions of the 2012 American Eagle Gold Coins. Released by the United States Mint in five products on Thursday, April 19, beginning prices range from a low of $215.50 for the smallest Eagle to a high of $3,585.50 for the set containing one of each sized Eagle. Coin prices, however, can change weekly depending on the market value of gold as each of the American Eagles is struck in 22-karat gold.

These coins are produced for coin collectors at the United States Mint in West Point and carry the 'W' mintmark. The five available products have varying limits, with the four different sized or denominated American Eagle Gold Coins also having different mintage limits. Their intro prices and limits are summarized as follows:

Whether the coins are purchased separately or within the four-coin set, each is held within a satin-lined, blue velvet case which comes with a US Mint Certificate of Authenticity.

First Week Update - Eagle Price Cuts and Debut US Mint Sales

Following their introduction on Thursday, the US Mint released debut sales up through Monday (April 23) which indicates a combined 8,369 proof Gold Eagles were sold for total sales of $8,245,152. This is down significantly from recent year debuts, with perhaps demand weighted by their highest ever starting prices. But those prices were trimmed on Wednesday (April 25) as a result of lower gold prices. The following grid offers both the new prices and the debut sales:

PRODUCT DEBUT SALES UPDATED PRICES
One-Ounce Coin ($50) 1,757 $1,885.00
Half-Ounce Coin ($25) 449 $956.00
Quarter-Ounce Coin ($10) 433 $490.50
Tenth-Ounce Coin ($5) 1,394 $210.50
Four-Coin Set 1,084 $3,493.00

The debut sales are in the amount of products sold.
