2011 Presidential Dollar Coin Proof Set

The 2011 Presidential Dollar Coin Proof Set was released on February 22, 2011 and initially sold for $19.95 from the US Mint. The release of the set marked the fifth year for the series which debuted in 2007. Coins in the set honor the former Presidents of the United States with obverse designs featuring a portrait of the individual. The coins in the series are released at a rate of four per year with the order dictated by the order in which the individual served in office. Thus, the first coin released in the series was the George Washington Presidential $1 Coin honoring the first President of the United States. The coins included in this set honor the seventeenth through the twentieth former chief executives who served from 1865 through 1881. Each coin is encased in a protective lens to preserve the proof finish and to minimize the possibility of marring and scratches. The series launched in 2007 and honors the former Presidents of the United States with a coin struck with their image. The coins are issued in the order upon which the president served.
