2011 Glacier 5 oz Silver Coins
|
The 2011 Glacier 5 oz Silver Coins honor Glacier National Park in Montana and are struck from five ounces of .999 silver to a diameter of three inches. Each coin features designs similar to those found on the Glacier National Park Quarter struck as part of the US Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. These massive five ounce silver coins are produced in both bullion and uncirculated conditions and, as mentioned before, contain obverse and reverse designs similar to the Glacier Quarter. This includes an obverse containing a portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States, and a reverse emblematic of Glacier showing a mountain goat climbing on the rugged terrain with Mount Reynolds in the distance. Each 2011 Glacier Silver Bullion Coin is produced by the US Mint for investors and are initially sold through the Mint's network of authorized purchasers who resell them for a small premium above the current spot price of the silver contained within them. This is the standard procedure used by the Mint for all of its bullion products including these America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins™. However, the Mint strikes each 2011 Glacier Five Ounce Uncirculated Silver Coin with collectors in mind and sells them directly to the public for a much higher premium than seen on the America the Beautiful Bullion Coins. These specific strikes also feature an uncirculated finish which typically results in a much higher level of detail than will be found on the bullion coins. This Glacier 5 oz Silver Coin is just one of a total of five 2011-dated strikes. The other four being:
In addition, the Mint also strikes these designs on aforementioned clad quarters, which also appear in a 90% silver variety included in the Mint's 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set as well as the larger 2011 US Mint Silver Proof Set. Coins Specifications & Information
