Gettysburg 5 oz Silver Coins (Image of Related Quarter Shown), Click to Enlarge The 2011 Gettysburg 5 oz Silver Coins are massive three-inch diameter precious metal versions of the 2011 Gettysburg National Military Park Quarter honoring the site in Pennsylvania struck as part of the US Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. These five ounce .999 silver coins are produced in both a bullion quality for investors as well as an uncirculated quality for collectors. Both of the five ounce coins feature imagery similar to that found on the Gettysburg Quarter which it is based on including an obverse portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States. The reverse of the strike contains a design showcasing the 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Monument found within the military park. The US Mint strikes the 2011 Gettysburg Silver Bullion Coin as part of its America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins™ series. This series is designed for investors and features bullion quality strikes sold through the Mint's network of authorized purchasers. The purpose of these strikes is to allow investors the opportunity to purchase small amounts of silver with the coins weight and purity guaranteed by the government. This is in contrast to the 2011 Gettysburg Five Ounce Uncirculated Silver Coin which the Mint produces for collectors. These coins feature an uncirculated finish which typically has a much higher level of detail than seen on bullion strikes.
