2011 Chickasaw 5 oz Silver Coins
|
The 2011 Chickasaw 5 oz Silver Coins contain designs similar to those that are found on the Chickasaw National Recreation Area Quarter struck as part of the US Mint's America the Beautiful Quarters® Program and honoring the national site found in Oklahoma. However, these coins are each minted from five ounces of .999 fine silver to a diameter of three inches.
Size and content differences aside, as stated before, the five ounce silver coins contain imagery very similar to that found on the Chickasaw Quarter struck as part of the Mint's America the Beautiful Quarter series. This includes an obverse portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States, and a reverse design emblematic of Chickasaw National Recreation Area showing the scenic Lincoln Bridge found there. The US Mint strikes each 2011 Chickasaw Silver Bullion Coin for investors to bullion quality. These coins are then sold through the Mint's network of authorized purchasers for a small premium above the current spot price of the five ounces of silver contained within each strike. This is different from the 2011 Chickasaw Five Ounce Uncirculated Silver Coin which the Mint strikes for collectors. These coins contain an uncirculated finish which typically results in a higher level of detail than the bullion strikes. The uncirculated coins are also initially sold by the Mint directly to the public with a much higher premium than seen on the bullion coins. The Chickasaw 5 oz Silver Coins are just one of five 2011-dated strikes in their series. The other four for the year include:
Silver coin collectors will also be interested to know that these designs are also struck on a limited quantity of America the Beautiful Quarters. Typically, the quarters are struck for circulation from a clad composition, but the 2011 US Mint Silver Proof Set and the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set contains 90% silver varieties.
