2011 American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin
|
The 2011 American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins continue a series of bullion strikes that dates back to 1986 from the US Mint. The coins were created to allow investors a low-cost option for adding the precious metal to their portfolios and features what many consider to be one of the most beautiful designs ever struck on an American coin. Typically, the Eagle Gold Bullion Coins are struck in four different sizes offering investors different price points for their purchasing requirements. These sizes include one ounce, 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce and 1/10 ounce. The US Mint creates each Eagle with the stated amount of gold, plus a small amount of silver and copper to create a 22-karat composition. This results in a strike that is more resistant to marring and scratching than if the coin was produced from 24-karat gold. American Eagle Gold Bullion Coin DesignObverse design: Augustus Saint-Gaudens created the image of Liberty found on the obverse of the Gold Eagle. It was originally designed for the 1907 $20 Double Eagle and is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful over produced on American coinage. Also shown are the inscriptions of "LIBERTY" and the year. Reverse design: Mrs. Miley Frances Busiek designed the reverse which shows a family of eagles along with the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the denomination and size of the strike.
