2010 Lincoln Cent
|
Authorized by the same legislation that provided for the four different 2009 Lincoln Cents, the United States Mint was directed to create the 2010 Lincoln Cent. The new penny was released for circulation on February 11, 2010. With a reverse "emblematic of President Lincoln's preservation of the United States of America as a single and united country," the 2010 design will be used in coming years as well. The final design of the Union Shield was presented to the public in November 2009, during the official launch ceremony of the Presidency in D.C. Cent on the U.S. Capitol Grounds. 2010 Cent DesignObverse design: Victor Brenner's portrait of Abraham Lincoln is seen on the obverse, much as it has been since the Lincoln Cent first appeared in 1909. Also seen are the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST," "LIBERTY" and "2009." Reverse design: On the reverse we find a Union Shield with a scroll across it stating "ONE CENT." The shield contains "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" circles the top. It was designed by US Mint Artistic Infusion Program Associate Designer Lyndall Bass and engraved by US Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna. Coin Specifications & Information
