2010 American Veterans Disabled For Life Proof Silver Dollar

The 2010 American Veterans Disabled For Life Proof Silver Dollar honors those individuals who answered their nations call to service in one of the armed forces and were disabled as a result of that service.

Authorized by the American Veterans Disabled for Life Commemorative Coin Act of 2008, these coins are struck from 90% silver and 10% copper to a diameter of 1.5 inches.

A surcharge of $10 is added to the sale of each coin with the raised funds forwarded to the Disabled Veterans' LIFE Memorial Foundation. The foundation will use the proceeds to support the construction of the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial in Washington, D.C.

A maximum of 350,000 of the coins can be struck across all product options including this proof coin and the similar uncirculated version.

American Veterans Disabled For Life Coin Designs

Obverse design:
The obverse shows the legs and boots of three disabled veterans. One set of crutches is shown supporting the veteran on the right side of the coin. The inscription "THEY STOOD UP FOR US" is arched over the top with "IN GOD WE TRUST" below. Also shown are the inscriptions "2010," "LIBERTY" and the "W" mintmark for West Point. The design was completed by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart.

Reverse design:
A Forget-Me-Not Flower is found at the base of a wreath of oak branches which surrounds the inscription "Take This Moment to Honor Our Disabled Defenders of Freedom." Also shown are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DOLLAR" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The design was created by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Thomas Cleveland and engraved by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna.
