The 2009 Presidential Dollar Coin Proof Set was issued by the United States Mint on Feb. 10, 2009, for the price of $14.95.

The set is the third annual release to contain $1 proofs where the obverse (heads side) depicts a former American President.

"Proof coins are extraordinarily brilliant, with sharp relief and a mirror-like background. Their frosted, sculpted foregrounds give them a special cameo effect," the US Mint explains on the set's product page. "Proof blanks are specially treated, polished and cleaned to ensure high quality strikes. The blanks are then fed into presses fitted with specially polished dies and struck at least twice to ensure sharp relief."

• Harrison Presidential $1 Coin - 9th President, with the coin sculpted and designed by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna. 

• John Tyler Presidential $1 Coin - 10th President, with the coin honoring him designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill. 

• James K. Polk Presidential $1 Coin - 11th President, with the commemorative dollar designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Susan Gamble and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Charles Vickers. 

• Zachary Taylor Presidential $1 Coin - 12th President, with the $1 coin designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart.  

Each has a common reverse (tails side) of the Statue of Liberty, designed and sculpted by Don Everhart.
