2009 Anna Harrison First Spouse Gold Coin
|
The Anna Harrison Gold coins were first first released on March 5, 2009. They are struck in proof and uncirculated condition from 1/2 ounce of 24-karat .9999 fine gold. The spouse series compliments the Presidential Dollar series and both are tied to approximately the same schedule of four new releases a year. Anna Harrison's coin was the first release for 2009, but the ninth in the series that started in 2007. She has the distinction of being the only First Lady who was alive during her husband's tenure, but to never have lived in the White House since it was constructed. This is because she was too ill to join William for his inauguration, and by the time she was ready to travel to D.C., William had passed away. A bronze medal created in the exact likeness of the gold versions is also available from the US Mint. Anna Harrison Gold Coin DesignObverse design: A portrait of Anna designed by Donna Weaver and sculpted by Joseph Menna is seen on the obverse of the coin. Over her head is the inscription "ANNA HARRISON" with "9th 1841" seen below her. To the sides are the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST," "LIBERTY," "2009" and the mintmark "W." Reverse design: The reverse shows Anna doing one of the things she dearly loved, teaching her students. Around the image are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "$10", "1/2 OZ.", and ".9999 PURE GOLD." Coin Specifications & Information
