2009 American Samoa Quarter
|
The 2009 American Samoa Quarter is the fourth in a series of six coins from the US Mint celebrating the District of Columbia and the five United States territories. The Samoa quarter was launched in July and features several ceremonial items as well as a beach. The Motto of American Samoa is also seen - "SAMOA MUAMUA LE ATUA", which means "Samoa, God is First". The economy severely affected how many American Samoa quarters were struck for circulation, and limited that number to only 82,200,000, making it the lowest mintage figure for a quarter up to that point for many years before. American Samoa Quarter DesignObverse design: William Cousins version of the original John Flanagan portrait of George Washington is featured on the obverse. Also seen are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "QUARTER DOLLAR," "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the mintmark. Reverse design: Stephen Clark's design of several Samoan ceremonial items is featured on the reverse. Included items are a ava bowl, whisk and staff. A coconut tree is also seen on a shoreline. The inscriptions "AMERICAN SAMOA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "2009" and "SAMOA MUAMUA LE ATUA" (Samoa, God is First) are all seen as well. Coin Specifications & Information
