2009 Abraham Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar Uncirculated Coin
|
Celebrating the bicentennial of the birth of the 16th President of the United States, the US Mint released the 2009 Abraham Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar Uncirculated Coin on February 12, 2009. A similar proof version was released at the same time and both ended up selling out with days of each other. The uncirculated coin had a mintage of only 125,000, and all were sold by March 24,2009. Interest has remained high for the Lincoln coins aided by the fact that the Mint is also releasing four newly designed Lincoln Cents throughout the year. As such, the secondary markets are still seeing a premium on the uncirculated silver dollars. Lincoln Silver Uncirculated Coin DesignObverse design: A portrait of Abraham Lincoln based on Daniel Chester French's famous sculpture which sits inside the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. is featured on the obverse. It was designed by Justin Kunz and sculpted by Don Everhart. The obverse also includes the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST," "LIBERTY," "2009" and the mintmark "P." Reverse design: The last 43 words of Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address wrapped in a laurel wreath are seen on the reverse - "…we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain — that this Nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." It was designed and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. Also included are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNIM" and "ONE DOLLAR." Lincoln's signature is seen in a banner below the speech. Coin Specifications & Information
