The final new cent of 2009 was issued by the US Mint on November 12. Known as the 2009 Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Presidency in D.C. Cent, it was launched at a ceremony in the nation's capitol.

Immediately following the ceremony, an exchange was offered where individuals could trade cash for up to six rolls of the newly struck coins. The Mint also offered that same exchange at two of its facilities located in D.C.

An image of an unfinished U.S. Capitol building is seen on the reverse of these cents. The Capitol was in that state when Lincoln first assumed the Presidency in 1861. Under his direction, construction was completed in spite of the Civil War that was occurring at the same time.

Obverse design: The image of Lincoln on the obverse of the coin is a familiar one since it has been featured on all U.S. cents since 1909. It was designed by Victor Brenner. Also seen are the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST," "LIBERTY" and "2009."

Reverse design: The reverse shows an unfinished Capitol building in Washington D.C., as it appeared when Lincoln first arrived as President of the United States. Also shown are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE CENT," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1809." It was designed by Susan Gamble and sculpted by Joseph Menna
